Dr. Melissa Pounders
Dr. Pounders is a 2006 graduate of Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine and has been with us here at SAVE Hospital since 2015. She loves to practice emergency medicine, and her love of animals extends over to her daily life where she shares her farm with 10 dogs, 3 cats, 19 bantam chickens, 4 donkeys and a herd of beef cattle! Between work and the farm Dr. Pounders stays pretty busy, but when she does find time to spare she enjoys gardening, sewing, cooking and exploring all the sights our area has to offer on her motorcycle. Dr. Pounders has developed a particular interest alongside emergency medicine for veterinary ophthalmology and endocrinology which means she can help us manage some of our particularly difficult cases after hours. And she never balks at a chance to go after the many things our canine and feline friends manage to eat and need to have removed surgically including balls of gorilla glue, treble hooks, earbuds, rocks, marbles, a Nerf golf ball, pacifiers, corncobs, underwear, socks, rope toys, coins, and likely many other unmentionables!!
Dr. Ravi Vuribindi
Dr. Ravi came on board here at SAVE Hospital in January 2014. Prior to joining us, he had worked in small animal practices in India and in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Ravi completed his veterinary studies in 1993 gaining his graduate and eventually master’s degrees from the College of Veterinary Science in Hyderabad, India. He and his wife live in Birmingham with their two children. Dr. Ravi enjoys performing surgery and working through challenging internal medicine cases which serve him well in an ER setting. Outside of work, Dr. Ravi enjoys traveling and spending time with his family as well as volunteering with the humane society.
Dr. Nilin Gupta
Dr. Gupta is the newest addition to our team at SAVE Hospital having joined us in the summer of 2017. He completed his veterinary studies in 2000 at the College of Veterinary Science in Durg, India. After additional studies in India and at Florida State University, Dr. Gupta pursued his interest in emergency/critical care medicine and surgery and joined our team! When he’s not pulling the night shift in the ER clinic, Dr. Gupta enjoys spending time with his family – going to the beach and to movies and hiking. Dr. Gupta and his wife currently live in Birmingham where she is a scientist at Southern Research. They have twin 2-year-olds, Viraat and Vihaan, which keep them very busy!

We also employ staff members from your favorite local day practices to fill in when needed.  This might include veterinarians or support staff.  So, while you will typically meet one of the staff members shown above if you have to visit our clinic, your favorite veterinarian or vet tech could be the face that greets you in the exam room.
